How to Burn Windows 8 Consumer Preview to USB Pen Drive

On the earlier posts, I have shared Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO links and on this one I got some comments to ask about ISO to USB. There is a more common question among my visitors: How can you create a bootable USB pen drive of Windows 8 Consumer Preview? The answer to this question is that there are lots of tools available on the Internet to burn any Microsoft ISO image into USB flash drive. But if you are inexperienced in doing this and if you do not know how to use it but would like to use any simple solution, then Microsoft always have a freeware tool to do this. The freeware tool available is Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool, which can burn your Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO to USB flash drive with a few clicks. This tool is user friendly and very easy to handle, and you need to follow only few steps to burn USB pen drive. To successfully start this tool, you should have a ISO image of Windows 8 Consumer Preview. You can download it from Microsoft website or you can download it from this post. Once the download is completed, insert any USB flash drive in your system and start Microsoft Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. This process would erase all the information in your pen drive. So please make sure that you have made a back up of all the files and folders of your pen drive before inserting it on any system. The download tool is available as a setup and so you need to install it on the system.
After starting the process of Download tool, browse for Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO file and locate it.

Once you chose the location of ISO file, you need to select the media type you wish you add. The media could be USB or DVD. In the post here, we are working on bootable Windows 8 USB drive, so click on USB device.

In the last step, you have clicked on USB device, and now you have to select the USB device location. In the example image, I am selecting “J:” which is my USB pen drive.

This is the final step to start USB burning process. When the process is on, the Download tool will ask to Erase USB Device, click on Erase USB Device button to start the process.
Finally, you have bootable USB pen drive of Windows 8 Consumer Preview. To use this bootable Windows 8 Pen Drive, open BIOS settings and choose USB device as the first boot device and save the current BIOS settings. The next time you start your computer this will start booting from your bootable USB flash drive.
